How we source, check and correct our work

HDBND publishes free NIL reference pages and tools that athletes, parents and schools act on. This is how we decide what goes on them, how we keep them current, and how to tell us when we've got something wrong.

Primary sources first

Rules pages cite the statute, the state's high-school association and the governing body itself. Tax figures come from the IRS, the Social Security Administration and each state's revenue department. Reporting from news outlets fills gaps and is labelled as reporting.

Every state on the NIL rules tracker lists its sources, and we run a link-checking script over every cited source when we refresh the content. A source that no longer loads is replaced or the claim is removed.

Dates you can see

Every reference page and free tool shows when its figures were last verified. State NIL rules are re-checked every quarter, tax figures every January for the new tax year, and the revenue-share cap every July for the new academic year.

When NIL news changes a rule we cover, we update the page in place and change its date rather than publishing a separate news post, so the page you land on is the current one.

What we sell, and how we keep it separate

HDBND sells software to athletes, brands, agencies, schools and teams. Our free tools and reference pages carry no paid placements, and when a page compares HDBND with another platform it says so and cites its facts.

Information, not advice

Our pages explain rules, taxes and market rates in plain English. They are not legal, tax or financial advice. Confirm anything you will act on with your school's compliance office, an attorney or a tax professional.

Where a licensed professional has reviewed a page, the page names them, their credential and the review date. Pages without that line have not had a professional review.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help research and draft. A named HDBND author is responsible for every page, checks its facts against the sources it cites, and answers for its corrections. Figures in our calculators come from the published sources, never from a model.

Corrections

Email hey@hdbnd.com with the page and what is wrong. We reply within two business days, fix confirmed errors on the page, and update its last-verified date.
